Yoke Mount 8" Newtonian
I built this scope in February 2006 at my speaker shop.
It's an 8" newtonian reflector in a homemade horseshoe yoke mount.
The base is made with 1" MDF and a pair of 2x4's.
The yoke is also 1" MDF including the horseshoe.
The horseshoe plate rides on two smooth steel wheels with bearings.
The tube is 1/2" MDF with internal bracing.
The mirror cell:
Comprised of a 1" MDF disc that sits on a 1" MDF square plate (the end cap of the tube).
Sandwiched between is a tripod of very stiff compression springs.
Carriage bolts pass through the springs to wing nuts on the outside of the end cap board.
The mirror is held to the disc board by "L" brackets with small (bent) hooks at the top.
This scope was my prototype for
- my future 24" Web-Controlled telescope.
